I decided I should do an update on a few things! It has been really busy school wise around here. I am taking 8 classes total, which is definitely a lot more than I expected and a lot more work. Since every class is in Spanish I have to pay extra attention, however it is getting easier to still listen and zone out on occasion since the classes are all 1.5 hours long. Yet, life is pretty normal which is crazy because I never thought life in Spain would ever be "normal" here. Hopefully this means I am adjusting well...
This past weekend a few friends and I decided to explore a little more of Andalucia, so we went to Jaén, which is about a hour or so outside of Granada. It was an unexpected trip since not many of us have heard of it, but I'm learning about so many new places in Spain that I definitely want to travel more within the country than I had originally planned. We took a bus from the Granada Bus Station and arrived in Jaén around 12:30pm. I saw the outside of the Cathderal, but I decided not to go in. While I love Europe and the history they have here, there are so many cathedrals that I was fine with missing this one. The highlight of our trip was going to the Castillo de Santa Catalina, which is a castle similar to the Alhambra in Granada, only smaller. I love how there are castle's everywhere, coming from the US it's such a rare tourist site.
I had so much fun here! I was so tired from walking, but it was worth it when I ate Bunuelos, hot donuts drizzled in melting chocolate, on the way down. It reminded me a lot of the village I went to in Morocco. The greenery was amazing and a fun fact about Jaén is the speciality are olives and olive oil! If I wasn't afraid of it bursting in my bag on the way to the States I would have definitely bought some. I am so happy I went and was able to enjoy a smaller town to balance out the bigger trips I'll take to see what Spain has to offer.
I'd rather splurge on a good meal than a nice hotel, wine than water and plane tickets than club covers. Traveling and eating are my two favorite things, so follow my journey to see where I go and eat next! I'm just living my best life.
