Cheers to the first blog post of my Fulbright Year! I landed in Madrid on the morning of August 30th and I've been cruising by these past few days between sleeping, tapas and getting to know some pretty great people. Here are some of my initial reactions and experiences to living abroad:
- I can't open a bank account nor actively find a piso (a flat) until I actually get to La Rioja, but I have a few appointments set up for when I get to Logroño.
- However I did get a Spanish phone number and SIM card! Now, I have data and a means of communication with people in a reasonable time frame and not when I only have Wi-Fi. Word of advice? Get your phone unlocked BEFORE you leave your home country. Trust me, your life is easier that way and I could have saved myself the headache had I handled that prior to arriving, but lesson learned.
- I'll be doing more sight-seeing this weekend so hopefully I'll have more to share next time. Otherwise, there isn't much else to discuss, but I'll leave photos of the tasty tapas I've eaten thus far because, why not?
Side note: I'm still pescetarian so while you may see poultry, beef or pork photos, I do not eat them. However the salmon was so delicious!! I can't wait to cook more when I get my own apartment and learn how to cook the traditional food here too.
I'd rather splurge on a good meal than a nice hotel, wine than water and plane tickets than club covers. Traveling and eating are my two favorite things, so follow my journey to see where I go and eat next! I'm just living my best life.
